MSP430FR6047: Water flow meter "fish" shape vs. amplitude what to aim for

Hi

Have a question regarding the ADC capture. I'm on a custom board the ACD captures is from the CCS graph viewer. The piezos are 1 MHz

The question concerns what to aim for, when looking at the captures. Is it better to find the classic fish or is it better to get as much amplitude as possible (and then scale the gain down).

It's a clamp on sensor mounted on plastic pipe. The gain is set to 58 (arbitrary value, so no particular reason other than its not max, and gain of 0 is definitely too low). 15 pulses.

At 1020 kHz I get a reasonable capture with an amplitude of 911 counts

At 1060 kHz I get a good start of the capture, but a much much longer tail. The amplitude, however, is much higher at 1380 counts, the gain can be adjusted a bit down.

As far as I understand the algorithm it locks on peaks that is above the set threshold up until the max amplitude. So the the tail of the capture doesn't really matter.

In this case what is the better option to aim for? Are there any pros and/or cons opting for one over another.

Kind regards Lasse
