MSP-FET (MSP430: Error connecting to the target: Unknown device)

Hi,

I have a MSP430FR5989 and I am using MSP-FET and CCS (v6.1.2.) to program and debug it. When I tried to debug "Blink The LED" in the Project templates, I then saw the message "Error connecting to the target: Unknown device." I have searched through the forum and checked most of the threads related to the same issue. I already made sure my JTAG connection is correct (2-Wire, local supply, Vcc Tool left open, correct R1-47kohm and C1-2.2nF). Therefore, I suspect that it's the software that's not working properly. There are some specific questions I have which I think can possible answer why it doesn't work:

1. I am using a Mac OS X El Capitan. Most Mac users said that they can use MSP-FET with no problem. Can I assume that my OS should not be the cause of the problem? (I can switch to PC, but I prefer Mac)

2. Do I need to install any MSP-FET USB driver? When I plug in the USB port, nothing really popped up and told me to install a USB driver. By the way, my Mac can detect the following:

3. Should I configure anything on CCS so it can recognize my device? I tried all Connection configurations (Project →  Properties →  General →  Device →  Connection.) and they didn't work. Since Is there any suggestion on how I should configure my CCS?

4. One thing I found odd on the JTAG interface is that pin1 on JTAG (TDO/TDI on JTAG or RST on MSP430) appears to be at 2.12V. Is this expected?

I will update my schematic as soon as possible, but for your information, on my MSP430FR5989, DVCC1,DVCC2,DVCC3,ESIDVCC are powered by the same 3.3V supply, AVCC is powered by a different 3.3V supply (powered up at the same time). DVSS1,DVSS2,DVSS3,ESIDVSS,AVSS1,AVSS2,AVSS3 are all connected to the same ground. I do have two pairs of decoupling capacitors (100nF and 1uF) for AVCC and DVCC. JTAG, power supply, and ground supply are about the only things I connect on my MSP430FR5989.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Regards,

Michael
