CCS/MSP-EXP430F5438: Demo program loads, runs, but no meaningful display

Part Number:MSP-EXP430F5438

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

I've been trying to get the downloadable demo code to work on a brand new MSP-EXP430F5438 board and have spent hours setting breakpoints, tweaking parameters for backlight and contrast, and so forth. I guess if anyone knows the answers to any of these questions it would help. Depending on param values, the CCD either (I) lights up brightly, or (ii) does not light up, but then it does if I pause the program, and then it goes on and off around every 3 seconds; or (iii) never lights up. But in any case, it never shows the TI logo or menu or anything; it is always just a solid fill.

1. There is a USB connection to the FET, and a second one that goes straight into the MSP-EXP board. Should this second one be plugged in or not?

2. Is there anything about my HW rev 0-04 that is different than the 0-02 which is the basis for the downloadable manual and FW? and if so, is this documented anywhere?

3. Is there a picture or table indicating ALL jumper settings?

4. It would be nice if there was a short video showing the board (including all jumper and switch settings) while the code is downloaded and run, showing what the CCD screen should look like, what one is supposed to do to operate it, and so forth. The manual would probably be helpful if everything "just worked."

5. Any other suggestions?

Tim
