MSP430FR5739: Can i disconnect power to emulation part of the evaluation board?

Part Number:MSP430FR5739

Hi,

I have purchased MSP430FR5739 recently. I have following questions would like to ask.

Firstly allow me describe my set up.

After I have downloaded program from USB, I disconnect usb and power the board from #1 using battery.

Q1. Since I have already downloaded programed already, I no longer need #2 emulation part of the board right? The reason I want to isolate emulation is because, I am trying to measure power consumption and there is an LED0 (#3) on the emulation part contributing to overall consumption.

So what I tried to do is, disconnect VCC jumper #4.

However once I disconnect that jumper, MSP no longer works.

Q2. Why is it so? That jumper #4 is just to power emulation part right?

FYI, I have attached the code I have downloaded. Thank you.

 * MSP430 code examples are self-contained low-level programs that typically
 * demonstrate a single peripheral function or device feature in a highly
